What does the Teeth Whitening treatment involve?

Boutique Teeth Whitening Day Kit Product

Custom-Made Trays

To begin the teeth whitening process, our dental team will take an impression or digital scan of your teeth. This allows us to create custom-made trays that fit perfectly over your teeth. These trays are designed specifically for your individual whitening procedure, ensuring maximum comfort and effectiveness.

Whitening Gel Added

Once the custom trays are ready, a special whitening gel is placed inside them. You will be instructed on how to properly fit the trays over your teeth. Typically, the trays are worn overnight while you sleep, allowing the whitening gel to work on your teeth gradually. The snug fit of the trays ensures that the gel remains in contact with the teeth for optimal results.

The whitening gel used in the trays contains carbamide peroxide, which breaks down during the treatment. As the gel breaks down, it oxidizes the stained compounds present in the enamel, resulting in a brighter, whiter smile. It's important to note that the structure of your teeth remains unchanged and undamaged during the whitening process.

How to maintain your white teeth

To maintain your newly whitened smile, practicing good oral hygiene and regular brushing, especially after consuming staining foods or beverages, is crucial. With proper care, your whitening results can last for years.

We also highly recommend carrying out a “top-up” procedure for one night every two months to help maintain the brightness of your smile. For individuals who regularly consume coffee, tobacco, or red wine, monthly top-ups may be necessary to sustain the desired level of whiteness. Scheduling regular trips to one of our hygienistfor stain removal may also be recommended.

Frequently Asked Questions About Teeth Whitening

We recommend that you always consult with one of our consultants before starting any treatment.

How long does the Dental Implant procedure take?

The duration of the Dental Implant procedure varies depending on numerous factors, such as the number of implants placed, whether bone build up or soft tissue modification is needed, and the patient’s overall oral health. In general, the process involves multiple stages and can take several months to complete. You will be advised on time scale following completion of the planning stage.

What is gum disease?

Gum disease is a very common infection of the tissues supporting your teeth.

When is root canal treatment needed?

With modern anaesthesia and techniques, root canal treatment is generally a pain free procedure. However it is likely that the patient will get some post-operative discomfort after the anaesthetic has worn off. In the vastmajority of cases this can be controlled with regular over the counter pain relief such as ibuprofen and paracetamol.

You may have visited the dental practitioner if you had symptoms of a pulp infection such as:

  • Pain when eating or drinking hot or cold food or drink
  • Pain when biting or chewing
  • A loose tooth
  • Swelling of the gum near the infected tooth
  • Pus oozing from around the infected tooth
  • Facial swelling
  • The tooth getting darker in colour.

An x-ray of your tooth may show the cause of pain or infection. Antibiotics are not effective in treating root canal infections. The two treatment options are removing the tooth or having a root canal treatment.

What is a CBCT Scan?

Dental cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a special type of x-ray equipment used when regular dental or facial x-rays are not sufficient. Your dentist may use this technology to produce three dimensional (3-D) images of your teeth, soft tissues, nerve pathways and bone in a single scan

Is laser treatment painful?

Patients experience minimal to no discomfort either during or after the procedure. Most laser applications use little, or in some cases no anaesthetic and avoid the use of traditional dental drills and instruments.

Can I have orthodontic treatment on the NHS?

We are not funded by the Local Health Boards to provide orthodontic services. All orthodontic work carried out at our practices is done so under a private treatment agreement. Generally, only patients under the age of 18 are eligible for an NHS orthodontic referral. Your dentist will offer to put you on a waiting list an NHS orthodontis, provided you fulfil the referral criteria. Irregularities of teeth which are less than 4mm out of line (e.g. open bites of less than 4mm) or deep bites with no functional problems will not qualify for NHS treatment.

How long do Dental Implants last?

With proper care and maintenance, Dental Implants can  last a lifetime. Regular dental check-ups, good oral hygiene practices, and avoiding habits like smoking can contribute to the long-term success of Dental Implants. Changes in your health or medication may affect an implants prognosis. If you have any queries, please contact us and we will happily arrange a consultation.
