What does the Teeth Whitening treatment involve?

Boutique Teeth Whitening Day Kit Product

Custom-Made Trays

To begin the teeth whitening process, our dental team will take an impression or digital scan of your teeth. This allows us to create custom-made trays that fit perfectly over your teeth. These trays are designed specifically for your individual whitening procedure, ensuring maximum comfort and effectiveness.

Whitening Gel Added

Once the custom trays are ready, a special whitening gel is placed inside them. You will be instructed on how to properly fit the trays over your teeth. Typically, the trays are worn overnight while you sleep, allowing the whitening gel to work on your teeth gradually. The snug fit of the trays ensures that the gel remains in contact with the teeth for optimal results.

The whitening gel used in the trays contains carbamide peroxide, which breaks down during the treatment. As the gel breaks down, it oxidizes the stained compounds present in the enamel, resulting in a brighter, whiter smile. It's important to note that the structure of your teeth remains unchanged and undamaged during the whitening process.

How to maintain your white teeth

To maintain your newly whitened smile, practicing good oral hygiene and regular brushing, especially after consuming staining foods or beverages, is crucial. With proper care, your whitening results can last for years.

We also highly recommend carrying out a “top-up” procedure for one night every two months to help maintain the brightness of your smile. For individuals who regularly consume coffee, tobacco, or red wine, monthly top-ups may be necessary to sustain the desired level of whiteness. Scheduling regular trips to one of our hygienistfor stain removal may also be recommended.

Frequently Asked Questions About Teeth Whitening

We recommend that you always consult with one of our consultants before starting any treatment.

What is PRGF?

With powerful regenerative properties, platelet rich growth factor Endoret® (PRGF) is being increasingly used in many fields, such as plastic surgery, dental implantology, and the treatment of sporting injuries. It has been shown to reduce scarring, rejuvenate facial tissues, as well as accelerate healing. Endoret claims to have “better osteoblastic (bone regenerating cells) properties and demonstrate lower post operative pain than other blood concentrates.” PRF releases growth factors over a longer period than PRP, offering more sustained benefits for skin repair and regeneration.

What are the benefits of root canal treatment?

Saving your tooth with a root canal has the benefits of:
• A better bite and more efficient chewing.
• Keeping your natural teeth.
• Protecting your other teeth from wear and tear.

Can I have orthodontic treatment on the NHS?

We are not funded by the Local Health Boards to provide orthodontic services. All orthodontic work carried out at our practices is done so under a private treatment agreement. Generally, only patients under the age of 18 are eligible for an NHS orthodontic referral. Your dentist will offer to put you on a waiting list an NHS orthodontis, provided you fulfil the referral criteria. Irregularities of teeth which are less than 4mm out of line (e.g. open bites of less than 4mm) or deep bites with no functional problems will not qualify for NHS treatment.

How soon can I be treated?

Our waiting times for an NHS examination and treatment appointments, for new and historic patients, vary. Our reception team will happily update you on current waiting times.

The NHS contract funds a set amount of dental activity for the year and we are obliged to deliver this evenly over the twelve months.

The level of NHS funding provided  is not high enough to enable us to meet the demand for NHS care that exists.

These factors lead to long waiting times to access NHS care.

Private care can be provided at all times with a minimal wait.

Your dentist will be happy to go through all available options including that of accessing some treatment options on a private basis alongside an NHS course of treatment.

What does a CBCT test for?

Dental CBCT is a special type of x-ray equipment used when regular dental  x-rays are not sufficient. Your dentist may use this technology to produce three dimensional (3-D) images of your teeth, soft tissues, nerve pathways and bone in a single scan.

What does a CBCT scan involve?

A CBCT scan is a simple procedure. The patient is carefully positioned (this takes a couple of minutes), asked to keep absolutely still, and the machine then rotates 360-degrees around the head while capturing a radiographic image. The computer software then uses this information to reconstruct a 3-D image. The scan time varies depending on the image required, but generally takes around 10 seconds to complete.

Which practice should I join?

The Cox & Hitchcock Dental Group operates several dental practices across South Wales. Fot your convenience, we would recommend joining us at your nearest location to home or work . For some advanced treatments, you may benefit from the services offered at a particlar site. We will advise you accordingly. You can find your nearest dental practice by browsing all our locations.
