Children’s Dentistry

Growing teeth need plenty of attention, which means looking after them effectively at home and bringing your children to see the dentist for preventive dental care.

Happy Smiles for Little Ones

Teeth start to emerge at around six months and this is the best time to bring your little ones for their first check-up. This will ensure they get used to the sights, smells and sounds of the dental practice, as well as encouraging a more relaxed approach to attending appointments.

Your dentist can protect young teeth with a range of treatments including fluoride varnish application and fissure sealant.

As well as regular visits to the dentist, an effective home care routine is essential for keeping developing teeth healthy. Your dentist can offer advice about how best to maintain the health of your child’s teeth between appointments.

3 Steps for Healthier Children's Teeth

Lead by Example

Set a positive example by maintaining your own oral hygiene routine and demonstrating proper brushing and flossing techniques. Children are more likely to follow suit when they see their parents prioritise dental care.

Encourage Healthy Habits

Establish a routine for regular brushing and flossing from an early age. Make it fun by using colourful toothbrushes, flavoured toothpaste, or playing their favourite song during brushing time. Encourage healthy eating habits, limiting sugary snacks and drinks.

Regular Dental Check-ups

Schedule regular dental check-ups for your child to monitor their oral health and detect any potential issues early on. This helps instil the importance of dental care and allows for timely interventions, such as fluoride treatments or dental sealants, to prevent tooth decay.

Frequently Asked Questions About Children's Dentistry

We recommend that you always consult with one of our consultants before starting any treatment.

How soon can I be treated?

Our waiting times for an NHS examination and treatment appointments, for new and historic patients, vary. Our reception team will happily update you on current waiting times.

The NHS contract funds a set amount of dental activity for the year and we are obliged to deliver this evenly over the twelve months.

The level of NHS funding provided  is not high enough to enable us to meet the demand for NHS care that exists.

These factors lead to long waiting times to access NHS care.

Private care can be provided at all times with a minimal wait.

Your dentist will be happy to go through all available options including that of accessing some treatment options on a private basis alongside an NHS course of treatment.

How much will it cost?

All treatment plans will be discussed with you at the examination appointment, along with associated costs.

Complex treatments, may need multiple visits to complete the investigations needed prior to providing an estimate. This will be printed at reception, or if preferred emailed to you.

Please look at our Fees page for more details.
