Dental Crowns

Dental crowns offer complete coverage, strength, and improved appearance for damaged, discoloured, or heavily filled teeth, providing a robust aesthetic solution.

What is a crown?

Dental crowns are a versatile and effective solution for various dental concerns. Following tooth preparation, they fit neatly over unsightly or broken teeth, offering complete coverage restoring strength, shape, and appearance. Whether you have broken, decayed, or discoloured teeth, or teeth with large fillings, dental crowns provide an aesthetic restoration that can enhance your smile.

Crowns are crafted from different materials, including porcelain, ceramic, and metal alloys, ensuring durability and natural-looking results. They are custom-made to match the size, shape, and colour of your existing teeth, creating a seamless and harmonious blend. Dental crowns are not limited to cosmetic purposes alone; they can also be used to restore teeth that have undergone root canal treatment or to replace missing teeth by attaching them to dental implants.

What is the most popular material for a crown?

dental Crown made from Porcelain material

Porcelain Crowns

Porcelain crowns are a popular choice for their natural and lifelike appearance. They are carefully crafted to match the colour, shape, and texture of your existing teeth, seamlessly blending in with your smile. Porcelain crowns are stain-resistant and offer excellent durability, making them a long-lasting solution for restoring damaged or discoloured teeth.

Dental crown made from Ceramic material

Ceramic Crowns

Ceramic crowns, similar to porcelain crowns, provide a highly aesthetic restoration. They are known for their exceptional translucency, allowing them to mimic the natural appearance of tooth enamel. Ceramic crowns are a great option for front teeth as they create a seamless, natural-looking smile. These crowns are strong and durable, ensuring a functional and visually appealing restoration.

Dental crown made with Metal Alloy material

Metal Alloy Crowns

Metal alloy crowns, such as those made of gold or silver-coloured alloys, are renowned for their strength and resilience. They offer superior durability and are less prone to chipping or cracking. Metal alloy crowns are often recommended for back teeth, where the focus is on functionality rather than aesthetics. These crowns are highly resistant to wear and tear, making them suitable for patients who have a heavy bite or grind their teeth.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Crowns

We recommend that you always consult with one of our clinicians before starting any treatment.

How soon can I be treated?

Our waiting times for an NHS examination and treatment appointments, for new and historic patients, vary. Our reception team will happily update you on current waiting times.

The NHS contract funds a set amount of dental activity for the year and we are obliged to deliver this evenly over the twelve months.

The level of NHS funding provided  is not high enough to enable us to meet the demand for NHS care that exists.

These factors lead to long waiting times to access NHS care.

Private care can be provided at all times with a minimal wait.

Your dentist will be happy to go through all available options including that of accessing some treatment options on a private basis alongside an NHS course of treatment.

How much will it cost?

All treatment plans will be discussed with you at the examination appointment, along with associated costs.

Complex treatments, may need multiple visits to complete the investigations needed prior to providing an estimate. This will be printed at reception, or if preferred emailed to you.

Please look at our Fees page for more details.
