Oral Cancer

The main risk factors in oral cancer are drinking alcohol and smoking or chewing tobacco. However, there is growing evidence that an increasing proportion of oral and oropharyngeal cancers are caused by the HPV (human papilloma virus). The development can be subtle, painless, and can be hard to detect because the symptoms and signs are not always obvious to the individual, or examining dentist/doctor. You should seek an opinion/examination from a Dentist/Doctor to evaluate any symptoms that you are concerned about, and certainly anything that persists for two or more weeks.

We will check your mouth at each examination visit for signs of disease, however if you have any concerns at any time please contact the surgery to arrange a consultation.

If your dentist discovers something suspicious in an area of your mouth, face, neck, or jaw that may have an underlying problem, you will be referred to the Maxillofacial unit at your local hospital for further investigation.

Please speak to reception for details if you would like to book a consultation or explore the services we provide.

“I recently transferred to this practice and I’m very pleased I did”

I recently transferred to this practice and I’m very pleased I did. My dentist Vinny carefully outlined all of my options and answered all of my questions so that I felt confident about opting for an implant. I had treatment at the Cardiff and Llanthewy Rd clinics and the reception and dental staff in both are friendly and courteous. I thoroughly recommend this practice!

“As I feel safe and well cared for whenever I have visited”

I have been on this planet just shy of 50 years, and have met many dentists in my time. Today I met a new dentist, Mays. I found her quiet, yet down to earth professionalism refreshing, and I was touched by her constant concern for my welfare. The words “pleasant experience” and “dentist” rarely appear in the same sentence, however today they did. I have found every....

"I am blown away how amazing I look"

Had Katie to do my cheek fillers and my botox. I am blown away how amazing I look, people keep telling me how good I look but they are not sure why. Katie has made me look natural, just a better version of how I look normally. The consultation was great she took great care to make sure she new exactly what I wanted, and explained in....

The suresmile process was easier than I thought it would be .......The best part is the outcome, and the compliments I always get from people about my teeth

The suresmile process was easier than I thought it would be, I didn't mind the retainers (I thought I would) and generally forgot they were there. I looked forward to changing them every couple of weeks as I liked the feel of the new ones (again I thought it would hurt), and they had the added bonus of reducing my snacking!....

Left message on Monday morning, was called back by Vinny(Dentist) and was seen by him 1 hour later. He removed a troublesome tooth very grateful for their prompt action, in returning the call and seeing me so quickly, along with their professional service. Thank you so much.

“The staff are always reassuring and polite”

I really think this is the best dental practise in the country. The staff are always reassuring and polite. I've been seeing David Cox for 20 years now and I can honestly say he's never ever caused any pain, his injections are painless as are his fillings. I've had 3 extractions again no pain at all. My latest visit was for root canal work, ah ha I....

Frequently Asked Questions About Oral Surgery

We recommend that you always consult with one of our consultants before starting any treatment.

How soon can I be treated?

Our waiting times for an NHS examination and treatment appointments, for new and historic patients, vary. Our reception team will happily update you on current waiting times.

The NHS contract funds a set amount of dental activity for the year and we are obliged to deliver this evenly over the twelve months.

The level of NHS funding provided  is not high enough to enable us to meet the demand for NHS care that exists.

These factors lead to long waiting times to access NHS care.

Private care can be provided at all times with a minimal wait.

Your dentist will be happy to go through all available options including that of accessing some treatment options on a private basis alongside an NHS course of treatment.

How much will it cost?

All treatment plans will be discussed with you at the examination appointment, along with associated costs.

Complex treatments, may need multiple visits to complete the investigations needed prior to providing an estimate. This will be printed at reception, or if preferred emailed to you.

Please look at our Fees page for more details.

  • Income based Jobseeker’s Allowance (Contribution-based does NOT count)
  • Income-related Employment & Support Allowance (Contribution-related does NOT count)
  • Pension Credit guarantee credit (Savings Credit on its own does NOT count)
  • Universal Credit (in the last assessment period there were no earnings, or earnings were within the allowed limit, please check at www.healthcosts.wales.nhs.uk)
